The next competitive day at Winter Olympic Games was marked by two loud sensations and both occurred when determining semifinalists of man's hockey tournament. The national team of United States of America unexpectedly ceded to team Slovakia (2:3), and the Canadian hockey players, having lost in a quarterfinal of the national team Sweden (0:2), as well as 16 years ago in Turin (Italy), left the Olympic tournament without medals.
