Captain Frakas

A real name of the hero of "adventure story" Gaultier (1863) — the baron de Sigoniac, but he lives the most part of adventures behind a mask of the Captain Frakass who represents in representations of vagrant troupe. The baron becomes an actor, having fallen in love with "prima donna" of troupe, the beauty Isabella. He is ready to follow it everywhere, but not to discredit a noble surname, disappears under a name of the Captain Frakass (in Russian – the Captain-boaster). The mask of the squabbler, the boaster and the rowdy – one of ordinary masks of the commedia dell'arte – helps the baron to become unrecognizable on a scene.
