More than 100 athletes from the countries of the near and far abroad take part in the International tournament on fighting sambo "the Cup of Baikal". The Governor participated in a ceremony of opening of the International tournament Irkutsk region Sergei Levchenko.
- the International tournament on fighting sambo "the Cup of Baikal" is carried out in the capital Irkutsk region for the first time and is dated for 80-year anniversary Irkutsk region. For us a great honor and responsibility to receive competitions in which the strongest athletes from 15 countries of the near and far abroad participate. Sambo – one of popular types of single combats to Irkutsk region. Our athletes repeatedly became winners and prize-winners of interregional, All-Russian and international competitions. It is sure, as carrying out the International tournament "Cup of Baikal" will play a positive role in sambo development Irkutsk region, will promote attraction of youth to regular occupations by physical culture and sport and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, - the head of the region emphasized.
Sergei Levchenko also noted that within sambo promoting among youth to Irkutsk region started the All-Russian project "Sambo in School", which purpose studying of bases of fight of sambo and creation of conditions for patriotic, physical and spiritual and moral training of school students. Today educational institutions in area municipalities which become pilot platforms of the project are already defined.
