Balmont Konstantin (1867-1942) - the Russian poet, the prose writer, the critic, the translator - was born p in the village Gumnishchi of the Shuysky district of the Vladimir province (nowadays - Ivanovo region) in a family of the territorial figure. In 1884 it was excluded from the Shuysky man's classical gymnasium (now it is Secondary school No. 2 to which in December, 2001 the name Balmont Konstantin) for participation in activity of a revolutionary circle was appropriated. In 1887 it was expelled from the Moscow university for participation in student's disorders and it is banished to Shuya.
Since 1993 in Shuya conduct work on revival of a name of the outstanding fellow countryman, for the purpose of promoting of creativity of the poet in the city the children's festival of poetry "Solar elf" in which not less than 600 children participate is annually held.
