During research of newborns and embryos, victims of Zeke's virus to Brazil, for details about damages which this virus causes in a brain became known . As it appeared, they are not limited to already known cases of a mikrotsefaliya.

The previous researches showed that Zeke's virus attacks nervous cages predecessors – type of stem cells from which neurons develop. The mikrotsefaliya – considerable reduction of the sizes of the head and a brain at the child which most often conducts to death it during pregnancy or soon after the birth becomes the most noticeable consequence of it. At present to Brazil it is recorded already more than 1800 cases of a mikrotsefaliya caused by an illness of Zeke in mother during pregnancy. Unusually the high frequency of this rare pathology also forced in due time doctors to pay attention to epidemic of fever of Zeke in .

New work is based on given to a tomography and openings of 17 newborns and embryos in Campina Grande in staff State of Paraiba on the northeast Brazil where epidemic of virus fever of Zeke was shown especially strongly. Research also included reports on 28 fruits and newborns with anomalies of a brain which mothers had a suspicion on Zeke's illness during pregnancy.

Almost in all cases the ventrikulomegaliya – increase in the sizes of brain ventricles, cavities in the brain, filled with spinal liquid is noted. Thus at three fruits significant increase in ventricles of a brain was not accompanied by a mikrotsefaliya, at the others the ventrikulomegaliya and a mikrotsefaliya were combined. Also almost at all children with the confirmed diagnosis and at 80% with suspicion on Zeke's fever at mother anomalies in development of a calloused body – a large bunch of the nervous fibers connecting the left and right hemispheres of a brain were observed. In all studied cases groups of developing neurons which did not move on the right place in a brain were found. Also anomaly in skull development at which it seemed fallen off in itself(himself), with the advent of the folds of skin resembling superficially a brain was very frequent.

"Pathological changes in a brain are very heavy in comparison with other congenital infections", – one of authors of research professor of radiology of the Harward medical school Deborah Levin (Deborah Levine) speaks. Zeke's virus does the greatest harm in the first trimester of pregnancy. Researchers will continue the work to specify influence of pre-natal infection by Zeke's virus on embryo development.

Results of the research are published in the Radiology magazine.
