The film festival of "Piterkit" was founded in 2001 by the director, the teacher SPBGIKIT Semenyuk Victor. Till 2013 the festival was "internal", calculated on participation in the competitive program only the movies shot by students of Sankt-Peterburgsky gosudarstvenny university, St. Petersburg university or St.Petersburg State University by cinema and television (later – institutes). Since 2013 the festival became international and Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation enters the register of cultural events.
