The German Stahlwerk Thueringen will replace natural gas with hydrogen in 2027

The German metallurgical company Stahlwerk Thueringen which belongs to the Brazilian corporation CSN, plans to connect by 2027 the plant in the city of Untervellenborn in Free State of Thuringia in the east of the country to the hydrogen pipeline. The project will be realized together with the gas operator of Ferngas Netzgesellschaft. At the first stage Stahlwerk Thueringen expects to replace with hydrogen not less than 50% of the natural gas used at plant in Untervellenborna. Its capacities reach 1,1 million t of steel a year.
