Geneticists investigated DNA of modern inhabitants France, having concentrated the main attention on populations from northwest regions of the country — from Region of Brittany and Pei-de-la-Loire. They found out that the river Loire has noticeable impact on population structure of this country, apparently. Inhabitants of southeast areas are genetically closer to Spaniards, the population of northern and east areas — to Germans. Thus population from the western regions of Region of Brittany where Breton language is widespread, is genetically close to Irish and carriers of Celtic languages United Kingdom.
