The Chinese agency on supervision of nuclear safety gave out permission to operation of the country's first thorium reactor. About it reports newspaper "South China Morning Post". It is noted that the two-megawatt reactor of the nuclear power plant on the melted salt of thorium is located in the territory of the Gobi Desert — in the city of Wuwei Province of Gansu. The reactor is operated by the Shanghai institute applied physics of the Chinese academy of Sciences. The permission which has been given out on June 7 by the authorities of China, allows the Shanghai institute to operate the reactor within 10 years.
