Annually on May 18 in the world the International day of museums is celebrated (International Museum Day). The decision on establishment of a holiday was made at the initiative of the Soviet delegation at the XI General conference International Council of Museums (ICOM) (International Council of Museums (ICOM), IKOM), Moscow passing in Moscow and Saint Petersburg (nowadays Saint Petersburg) in 1977. Subject of the International day of museums 2023 (on May 18) — "Museums, steady development and wellbeing".
