Germany: Friedrich Merts will head Christian democrats

Members of Christian Democrat union Germany elected Friedrich Merts the chairman of the party which for the first time in 16 years appeared in opposition. The German politician received absolute majority of voices in the first round of vote, reports on December 17 the German weekly journal "Der Spiegel".
