South African Nuclear Energy COR the Government of South Africa made the decision on construction the new multi-purpose research reactor. As it is reported, the new reactor will have to replace the existing research Safari-1 reactor which is operated in Pelindab's nuclear research center to the West from the capital of South Africa Pretoria. The Safari-1 reactor with a power of 20 MWt is operated since 1965 and has to be taken out of service in 2030. Now this reactor is one of four leading producers of medical radioisotopes in the world.
