Activists rescued a monument to the Soviet soldiers in Poland

In the town Zabkowice Slaskie in the southwest Poland local activists with assistance of the society "Kursk" restored a monument to the Soviet soldiers who were lost on May 8-9, 1945 at approach of the 1st Ukrainian front in Silesia, reported in local administration.

At opening of the obelisk established on a mass grave, there were Polish public men, the Russian diplomats and representatives of the city authorities. The representative of local authorities Yaroslav Tsheshchnyak reported that earlier on a monument there was a five-pointed star, however after it replaced with an orthodox cross. According to him, work on arrangement of separate graves will begin later. On the cemetery located in the downtown, are based 73 soldier and the officer which names are generally established. Tsheshchnyak told that the voivodeship has to watch a condition of military burials. However six thousand zloties annually allocated for these purposes (about 100 thousand rubles) suffice only on carrying out cleaning.

, in October, 2017 in Poland the law on the decommunization, providing demolition of the Soviet monuments came into force. Under a ban 450 monuments, 230 of which - to soldiers of Red Army can get. The exception is made for the memorials located on cemeteries or other burials. In this regard the obelisk in Zabkowice Slaskie will be touched by nobody.
