Stanchik was the most known court clown in the Polish history. The court career it did at the yards of the Lithuanian princes and Alexander Jagiellon's Polish kings, Stary Sigizmund I Stary Sigizmund and Stary Sigizmund on the II of August. Today a little that is known of this clown, and even his name and a national identity are a dispute subject. But scientists are sure: such person really existed.

After the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth section in 1795 Stanchik became a popular historical figure. Many of authors concerned him as to a symbol of fight Poland for independence. In the Polish art it became popular thanks to creativity of the artist Mateyko Ian. The artist always represented him with the interested and thoughtful look on his face.
