Wax-producing palm tree or Tseloksilon Andiysky – a national tree Colombia and the highest palm tree in the world. This species of palm trees grows big groups only in Kokor's mountain valley. These trees are unique by the nature and are the card Colombia.

Kokor's valley is located in riverheads of Quindío department, at height between 1800 and 2400 meters.

The valley also is a so-called entrance to National natural park "

Los-Nevados

", which is located in territories of four departments Colombia (Department of Tolima, Kaldas, Quindío department and Department of Risaralda) and occupies the space in 60 sq.km.

The valley is located at the big height for this reason it is almost always tightened by clouds. The high palm trees piercing clouds represent fascinating, and even slightly unreal look.

Wax-producing palm trees grow to 50 meters and there live about 120 years.

Leaves at them dark green with a grayish shade, the trunk cylindrical, smooth, light also is covered with wax.

To the electricity invention, palm wax was used in production of soap and candles.

The external part of a trunk was used for construction of houses and water supply systems.

Fruits served as food for cattle and pigs.

Centuries Christians cut off leaves from palm trees for celebration of Pussy-willow Revival. They used leaves to do magnificent bouquets for celebration of triumphal entrance of Jesus Christ to Jerusalem.

Uncontrollable cutting down of palm trees by locals led to that the Colombian government was compelled to take measures for preservation of the remained trees. Since 1985 the decree developed by Catholic church and the government Colombia, forbids cutting down of trees under the threat of a penalty. And the kept trees still grow in Kokor's valley where they can be seen and touched.
