Belarus by right is proud of the history of participation in the Olympic Games. For the first time Belarusians took part in the Olympic Games of 1952 to Helsinki as a part of USSR national team. Sporting achievements of the triple winner of the Olympic Games of the fighter Medved Alexander, quadruple owners of the Olympic gold of the gymnast Korbut Olga and fencers Belova Helena, the fivefold Olympic champion Kim Neli, the sixfold Olympic champion Shcherba Vitaly and many other glorified Belarusian athletes are entered by gold letters in the Olympic history.

For years of the sovereignty Belarus our athletes made a speech as p at 11 Olympic Games - 6 winter and 5 summer. 95 athletes became champions and prize-winners of games. They won 91 Olympic medals: 18 gold, 28 silver and 45 bronze.

On XXII Winter Olympic games to Sochi the Belarusian athletes won of 6 medals, including 5 the gold and 1 bronze. For the first time in the history the team Belarus took the 8th place in medal offset by quantity of the won awards.

In command sports Belarus at the Olympic Games was presented by three national teams. It is a national team Belarus on hockey (to Nagano-1998, Solt-Leyk-City-2002, Vancouver-2010), the women's national team Belarus on basketball (Beijing-2008) and an Olympic team Belarus on soccer (London-2012). However the Belarusian national teams did not reach the finals yet.

Zvereva Ellina (track and field athletics, a disk) - the participant of five summer Olympic Games (1988, 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008). The bronze prize-winner of games in Atlanta of 1996. At the age of 39 years won Olympic Games gold in Sydney in 2000. In 8 years at the Olympic Games in Beijing took the 6th place.

Yanina Karolchik (track and field athletics, shot put) - the champion of the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000. At the XXIX Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 twenty-year Aryamnov Andrey (weightlifting) was out of competition in the weight category (105 kg) and became the champion. Our athlete on a course of competitions established three world records. At first Kravchenko Andrey improved world achievement in breakthrough - 200 kg, in the second exercise - a push in final attempt it took one more record weight - 236 kg and in the sum of a double-event gained 436 kg - also new world record.

Menkova Oksana (track and field athletics, a hammer) won a gold medal of the Olympic Games of 2008 in Beijing. In the final in the fifth attempt it threw a hammer on 76,34 m and established a new Olympic record (the previous equaled 75,2 m).

the Belarusian crew of a canoe pair as a part of brothers Medved Alexander and Kravchenko Andrey Bogdanovichey (rowing on a canoe, the two) won the gold medal Olympic Games-2008. If for Abalmasov Aleksey and Litvinchuk Arthur the Olympic success was the first in career, for Petrushenko Roman and Makhnev Vadim it already the second Olympic award. Four years ago in Athenes they won bronze as a part of a kayak pair.

Grishin Aleksey (freestyle) in Nagano-98 was the eighth, in 2002 to American Salt Lake City became the bronze prize-winner, in Turin-2006 stopped in a step from a podium, having taken the fourth place, and the gold received on the XXI winter Olympic Games of 2010 in Vancouver. It is the first in the history of Belarus the gold medal won at the winter Olympic Games.

Martynov Sergei (firing bullet) - the winner of Games XXX of the Olympic Games of 2012. In London Martynov Sergei won the third medal at the Olympic Games. Before he won bronze - in Sydney-2000 and Athens-2004 twice. In total it took part in six Olympic Games, and on four of them reached the finals. In the capital United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in firing from a small-caliber rifle on 50 m to the 44-year-old Belarusian was not equal. In qualification tournament he won an unconditional victory, having established a new world record - 600 points. Mirny Maxime and Azarenko Victoria (tennis, mikst) won a victory in the final of tennis tournament in the mixed category at the Olympic Games in London. The Belarusian duet Azarenko Victoria / Mirny Maxime - unique. Two operating first rackets of the world entered it: Azarenko Victoria at that time was operating first racket of the world in the female single category according to WTA rating, and Mirny Maxime headed ATP rating in the man's pair category. At the XXX Olympic Games in London Azarenko Victoria became also bronze prize-winner in the single category.

Tsuper Alla (freestyle, acrobatics) - the champion of the XXII Olympic Games of 2014. The Olympic gold Tsuper Alla became sensation. At the Olympic Games it constantly did not have a malost: it took the 5th place in the 1998 and 9 place in 2002. However to Sochi Tsuper Alla used the chance presented to it of all hundred percent, without having allowed judges and competitors to doubt the superiority. Gold Tsuper Alla is the first Olympic award in the history of female Belarusian freestyle.

the Belarusian fristaylist Kushnir Anton (freestyle, acrobatics) became the Olympic champion in 2014 to Sochi. In a final round of competitions in an extreme park of "Rosa Khutor" the 29-year-old Minsker perfectly executed a jump with the highest coefficient of complexity - a threefold somersault with 5 screws, and received the highest mark among all competitors - 134,59 points.

of 37 Belarusian athletes are silver prize-winners of the Olympic Games, and 14 awards on the account of gymnasts. Twice three athletes became silver prize-winners: arrows Basinsky Igor (firing bullet), Rybakov Andrey (weightlifting) and Gerasimenya Alexander (swimming).

Bronze awards 57 Olympians won Belarus, on their account of 45 medals. The champion by quantity of bronze awards - the sixfold Olympic champion Shcherbo Vitaly. At the Olympic Games-1996 as a part of the national team Belarus it rose by the third step of a pedestal four times.

For the first time Belarusians made a speech at the Paralympic Games as independent team on X the summer Paralympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. The Belarusian athletes won of 13 medals, from which 3 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze.

Belarus at the summer Paralympic Games of 2012 in London was presented to b by 31 paralympic athletes in seven sports: track and field athletics, swimming, rowing, fencing, judo, cycling, powerlifting. The Belarusian team with 10 awards (5 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze) took the 25th place in total medal offset.

From 10 awards of the Belarusian team at the Paralympic Games of 2012 in London 6 were won by the swimmer Boky Igor. He won gold at a distance of 100 m butterfly stroke, became the silver prize-winner on 50 m freestyle, filled up a collection with gold on a hundred-meter race freestyle, won gold with a world record at a distance of 100 m on a back, there were 400 m best at a distance freestyle, having again established a planet record, with one more world record won a distance of 200 m medley swimming. Bronze medals on the account of the athlete Medved Alexander Subota in a triple jump in the category F46, Volchek Ludmila in rowing, Kanyuk Anna in long jumps in the category F11/12.

At the winter Paralympic Games of 2014 to Sochi representatives combined Belarus won 3 bronze awards and took the 18th place in medal offset. Shapteboy Vasilii became the double bronze prize-winner in biathlon at distances of 7,5 km and 12,5 km with four firing lines among visually impaired. Skorobogataya Yadviga won bronze in cross-country skiing at a distance of 15 km classical style among sportswomen with sight violation.

Summer Paralympic Games 2016 years will pass p from September 7 to September 19, 2016 to Brazilian Rio de Janeiro. 526 sets of medals in 22 sports will be awarded. Rowing competitions on kayaks and a canoe and on a thriathlon will be for the first time held. Competitions will take place on the same platforms, as 2016 Summer Olympics.
