The head of the Vologda region asked to keep a monument to Konev in Prague

the Governor of the Vologda region Oleg Kuvshinnikov appealed to the mayor of Prague madam Adriane Krnachovoy to keep a monument to the marshal Konev.

Information on monument demolition even more often appears in mass media and very disturbs Russia in a context of revision of results of World War II.

- To a huge regret, certain circles make today attempts to copy history, to reconsider war results, - Kuvshinnikov specified. - In particular, in mass media even more often there are materials about the situation developing round a monument settling down in the Czech capital to the marshal of the Soviet Union, honourable the citizen of Prague to Ivan Stepanovich Konev. Inhabitants of the Vologda region are concerned by similar news. For us the feat of the marshal Konev forever remains a symbol of courage, firmness and high patriotic spirit.

Kuvshinnikov specified that appeals to keep a monument to the native of the Vologda region Konev on behalf of all inhabitants of the region.

- Ivan Konev's Name are known by each resident of Vologda, - the head of the region noted. - In memory of feats of the well-known native Vologodchina in the territory of the region monuments are established, streets in municipalities and one of schools of the regional center are called his name. It is sure, education of modern youth on examples of heroes of the Great Patriotic War is an integral part of formation of true patriotism.

the Commander of a number of fronts in days of the Great Patriotic War, twice the Hero of the Soviet Union marshal Ivan Konev was born in one of villages of the Nikolsky district of the Vologda province in 1897. During the Great Patriotic War it excellent organized and carried out a number of the major operations, participated in fight for Moscow, in Kursk fight, storm of Berlin. For liberation of Prague from fascist aggressors Konev is awarded the highest Czechoslovak award "White Lev" of the first class and "A Czechoslovak Military cross of 1939". The monument was established to it on one of the areas of the Czech capital 45 years ago, however in recent years is even more often spoken about its possible demolition though official information on this occasion is not present.
