In three and a half years the iceberg broke up and thawed, having left a trace in the ocean environment, especially near the remote island South Georgia. Results of research are published in the Remote Sensing of Environment magazine. In July, 2017 the iceberg of A-68 broke away from Larsen's ice shelf From lengthways east coast of Antarctic Peninsula.
