According to the new research conducted by astronomers from ETH Zurich, satellites of Mars - the Fobos and Deymos - represent two fragments of that once was much larger satellite of Mars which was carried on part as a result of strong collision. Approximately collision of the moon with the stray rock, potentially an asteroid, happened from 1 to 2,7 billions years ago and caused powerful explosion.
