April 3, 1973. The first standard of a bar code is accepted
The first purchase with its use was made year later, the beaten-out check is stored in the museum of Smithsonian institute.

the System of Shaped code goods without which today it is difficult to present our life, was developed in the late forties by the graduate student of Institute of technology of university of Dreksel to gorod Filadelfiya (United States of America) Bernard Silver both his colleague and the friend Joseph Vudland. Their application for the invention, submitted in October, 1949, was satisfied three years later.

At first authors experimented marking of goods ultra-violet ink, but they were too expensive, besides quickly enough faded. Upon Vudland, according to him, dawned on a beach when he wrote on sand the word the Morse alphabet. "I only expanded points and a dash down and made of them narrow and wide lines" — he remembered subsequently. This principle, together with technology readings a sound track in movies, also were cornerstone of system of Shaped code.

Bernard Silver and Vudland tried to interest in the idea of IBM, however there did not want to spend resources for development of new technologies which could not "shoot". The inaccuracy of this idea became obvious on April 3, 1973 when the food industry of United States of America officially accepted for marking of the production the first standard of Shaped code — UPC (Universal Product Code).

year later, on June 26, 1974. In 8:01 mornings in the Marsh supermarket of the city of Troy Wrigley's chewing gum packing was bought. The check beaten out thus now is stored in the Museum of the American history of Smithsonian institute.
